The Vietnam
Memorial Wall is a place to honor our Vietnam Veterans. They fought for us in
the Vietnam War and risked their lives for this country. They have given us the
freedom we have and what we are able to do with our lives. Veterans are heroes
to us because the hardships they faced and the freedom they gave up fighting
for our country. Just because veterans don’t consider themselves as heroes,
they are in our world.
The Vietnam Wall isn’t just a
monument; it is a place to honor our Vietnam Soldiers. Jan Scruggs, the founder
of the wall, was an infantry corporal from 1969-1970. He wanted to honor and
acknowledge the veterans that fought in the war. Happily, The Vietnam Veterans
Memorial Fund, Inc decided to fund the because they didn’t want any Vietnam
Veterans to have to pay. The construction started in March 1982 and ended in
October 1982. Respectfully, 5 million people visit the wall each year and honor
the veterans whose names are engraved. Honorably there are about 58,000 Vietnam
Veterans on the wall. I personally did visit this monument, and people show
them respect, place flowers, and are quiet while honoring our Vietnam War
Veterans. It is a very sad monument to visit.
We should honor veterans every day
because they are our heroes. They might say they aren’t, but they are. Veterans
have risked their lives for us. They have fought in many wars for the United
States. The importance of giving them respect is that whether or not in times
of world peace, veterans and their families risked their lives to serve for our
country and the ideals we tend to love. Respectfully, veterans placed their
lives on the line to shield our freedom. Most veterans didn’t want to serve and
protect us here in the United States, but they still did.
“Honor to the soldier and sailor everywhere, who bravely
bears his country’s cause. Honor, also, to the citizen who cares for his
brother in the field and serves, as he best can, the same cause.” -Abraham
Lincoln
So, to the veterans
from the past, present, and future please keep up what you are doing and thank
you.
Awesome job, Austin!!
